Happy Australia Day!

Greetings from a snowy Shanghai! Heaviest snowfall in 5 years and it’s left us with a very pretty city on Australia Day :o)

Our local park turned into a little winter wonderland.

We’ve had cold weather and next weeek will dip again but Christoph is happy because he, of course, is working to sell heating units! He’s hoping that everyone is freezing and needs to go buy Wolf heaters :o)

Hope you’re all keeping warm and toasty, and for those in Australia, enjoy the remaining summer days! Big hugs xx

‘Ring Out The False, Ring In The True’

The above quote is from Alfred Lord Tennyson and I like it for the start to 2018. 2017 seems to have been a ‘non’ year for most of our friends and family; neither successful nor unsuccessful but a drumming on of life. I hope that negative habits can be put aside for at least one new positive habit, less stress and more joy. With all that is happening on the world arena, I also hope that we can move forward this year with understanding, tolerance and love for our fellow earthlings.

Christoph and I had a very full 2017 but overall, we think that it was a good one for us. We try to find quiet when we can and indulge in the little things that make us happy, eg. whenever we go to our Berlin apartment, we love that the tap water is potable! It’s the appreciation for the little things that make us realise how lucky we are :o)

We anticipate 2018 to be another full year for Christoph on the work front but with our many years of China experience, we know that we will also need to work hard at finding a work-life balance. We have a few trips lined up with friends and family over the course of the year ahead which we are very much looking forward to and will definitely cherish. Having great conversations, hearty laughter and good food will always make us happy!

Happy start to 2018 everyone and hope to speak, see or hug you soon!

Decadent December

The time has come! Yay! It is really almost the end of the year and Christoph and I are finally in holiday-mode together. We are both in Berlin and are loving being able to wake up to slow mornings and spending lots of time simply reading. What a luxury :o)

Another luxury Christoph has discovered is a barber shop around the corner from us. No he hasn’t grown a beard but he gets all the whiskey or beer he can drink, a hair wash, haircut and his chin stubble shaved off in a strictly woman-free zone. We’re now calling it his ‘day spa’ :o)

That’s actually another customer as Christoph couldn’t take a selfie while he was in the chair.

We don’t have big plans for Christmas but this is the first year since we’ve been coming to Berlin that we won’t have a beautiful Christmas tree in the apartment. I’ve still decorated what I can but because Christoph will be heading back to Shanghai on Jan 2, it will mean that it’ll be quite difficult for me to throw a tree out the window by myself on Jan 6. (You may be thinking that I could get a small tree but the whole fun of having one, for me that is, is to make sure I have one that almost touches the ceiling!). So, regardless of a tree-less Christmas, we’re very much still enjoying the time here.

Happy getting-ready-for-Christmas everyone!!

Post-Birthday

It's been a week since Christoph's big birthday and thank you everyone for your well wishes. We arrived back in Shanghai on Sunday and slipped easily into our city life. The time off was very much needed; yummy food, massage, sleep, swim, food, sleep... the typical R&R routine ;O)

We began the trip in Singapore and met up with some friends and acquaintances. Then we flew off to Phuket and drove over flooded roads to get to Khao Lak. The place we stayed at was so secluded that we had no other choice but to unwind!

So back to normal and busy work schedules! Have a good week everyone!

To All The Mum's Out There

To all the mother's I know, Happy Mother's Day! And to those of us who aren't mother's, I hope you had a great day celebrating it with your mums :o)

Christoph and I were riding the subway yesterday when an elderly lady stood up and offered me her seat. I obviously declined and after about two seconds, Christoph bursted out laughing... as did I. We came to the very quick conclusion that she thought I was pregnant. Well, that's the last time I wear that dress!!! Hmph!
