Happy Swiss National Day!

As with last year, Christoph and I spent the Swiss National Day (August 1) on our bicylces exploring more of Berlin. We decided to go to Wannsee by Grunewald which is in the west of the city. We headed out by train and ended up riding the many kilometres back home... because we could ;-)

Wannsee; gorgeous lake but the perimeter isn't very bicylce-friendly.

The lake was stunning and has the largest inland lido in Europe but we found that it was impossible to have a nice ride all the way round. This was due to the fact that most of the cycle path was actually on roads or following main roads. We thence decided to abandon the lakeside cycling attempt and headed towards the forest instead.

Grunewald; beautiful and surprisingly empty of fellow explorers.

Various views; a jetty on the west side of the lake, the Grunewaldenturm and the restaurant at it's base.

Overall, it was a very successful day in being active, outdoors and happy. The Wannsee would be better explored by boat, whereas the Grunewald is a place we could defintiely visit again.
